With the new quarantine laws, 2001 was the first year in which people from abroad could come and show their dogs at Crufts Dog Show, and they did. The Best Of Breed Winner for the Siberian Husky was, I believe, from Italy and went ont to win the Working Group.

It was also the year of the terrible ‘foot and mouth’ outbreak in Britain and as a result many shows had to change their dates, while a few had to cancel.

Due to the Foot And Mouth outbreak, Working & Pastoral Breeds Of Wales and WELKS were cancelled, so we had 25 shows where CC’s were allocated to the breed this year.

Judges: 12 Breed Specialists; 10 All Rounders; 3 Foreign Judges

Breed Specialist’s awarding CC’s for the first time this year were;
Helen Fielden (Gwaihir), Helen Lightfoot (Footlite),
Jenny Manley (Skimarque), and Audrey Richardson (Tuscarora)

There were 5 Champions crowned in 2001
(Total Breed Champions 87)
